Job Description: The Content Strategist position is under the general direction of the Deputy Communication Director and performs highly advanced communications-related work to further DSHS agency and public health-related goals. The position is responsible for the development of high-quality, strategic communications content including but not limited to social media, promotional materials, web content, and health-related advertisements. Content developed will further DSHS goals in areas of health issues, health promotion, health education and agency services.

Position is hybrid, teleworking Monday and Friday, and in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Position has extensive latitude for the use of initiative and self-management. Responsibilities Include: Content development for health communication campaigns, web, social media, and videos; also, training, editorial and technical writing as needed. Work also involves project management of communication processes, including but not limited to centralized in-box for program correspondence.
Essential Job Functions:

  • (45%) Plans, develops, coordinates and/or produces content for social media, web, video and print production. Provides support to DSHS communications team, including coordination and oversight of centralized in-box for program correspondence and public awareness campaign management. Provide content consultative services to program staff regarding public information and communications strategies for agency initiatives, marketing campaigns, stakeholder communications and outreach, seminars, conferences, and other communications-driven initiatives.
  • (45%) Creates, advises, or oversees the development of communication products such as articles, special features, executive communications, PowerPoint presentations, advertising copy, announcements, videos, newsletters, correspondence, and reports. Develops content, in coordination with DSHS programs and contractors, for use in social media and web platforms to compliment agency public and stakeholder communications regarding public awareness of health issues, health promotion, health education and DSHS services. Assists in completion of projects to optimize communication processes and quality of content, such as social media post templates and social media trainings and best practices guides.
  • (5%) Collaborates with and supports other Center for Consumer and External Affairs functions and activities including Media Relations, Government Affairs and Stakeholder Relations units as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or continuity of operations activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
  • (5%) Limited travel may be required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations relevant to communications strategies and limited-English proficiency and their use within the public sector knowledge of design principles; of printing processes.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards required to comply with Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act.
  • Skill and ability in content creation.
  • Skill in verbal and written communications.
  • Skill and ability in graphic design, photography, and content creation.
  • Skill in advanced photography and videography.
  • Skill and ability in using graphic design software including the Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, After Effects, and Dreamweaver.
  • Ability to translate complex data and information into user-friendly formats that are easily understood by a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to track numerous projects at different development stages from conceptualization to final product.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other government officials and the public.
