Texas BOP Operations Manager

Location: Floydada, TX (South Plains Wind Energy)

The Texas BOP Operations manager has a primary role of managing the balance of plant functions for two operating assets, overseeing maintenance contracts and major maintenance activities, and interfacing with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and other services providers, internal teams, landowners, regulatory organizations, and local, state and federal regulators/agencies.

This position requires strong leadership skills, firm understanding of wind farm operational strategies, and a keen respect for ensuring a safe work environment and compliance with all environmental and NERC aspects of wind generation. The position reports to the Sr. Regional Operations Manager West.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) commitment.
  • Responsible for substation maintenance planning and oversight; along with switching, grounding and energizing circuits
  • Will react to unplanned outages collecting pertinent data for engineering review and disposition
  • Conduct monthly substation inspections and battery testing
  • Conduct or arrange for civil inspections including right of way, vegetation and overhead electrical lines
  • Strategically manage, in coordination with Engineering recommendations and the Operations Support Specialist, spare parts for BOP including medium and high voltage components
  • Work with Procurement to source new vendors for electrical BOP components based on lead time challenges and support PO creation where applicable
  • Coordinate with balancing authority, regional manager and asset management to schedule outages that align with interconnection requirements
  • Interact with site managers for oversight of daily operations and report to management regarding major activities
  • Coordinate with the Regional Manager to support review and optimization of asset performance and support the completion of capex projects
  • Contractor Monitor all major component work and manage any out of scope or project paid direct services
  • Consult on and be aware of relationships with local agencies, including road commissioners, and uphold all requirements of local permits and agreements (special use, road maintenance agreements, etc)
  • Review and understanding of O&M contracts and assist Regional Manager with solution implementations and overall optimization
  • Assist internal teams to prequalify and approve all contractors and sub-contractors
  • Support field activities for HSSE work, including any internal reporting, Habitat and Conservation Plan (HCP) requirements, environmental reporting, safety reports, etc.
  • Perform monthly safe work observations of contractors at the sites in the region, including a mix of the primary O&M provider, and other contractors/sub-contractors.
  • Support HSSE and Engineering teams with field expertise during Root Cause Analysis (RCA) procedures
  • Review and propose opportunities for improving performance if positive cost/benefit analysis.

Requirements
  • Organized, detail oriented individual with ability to multi-task, maintain accuracy of information, and meet deadlines with little supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to work cooperatively as part of a global team and to communicate well with a range of stakeholders
  • Technical understanding of wind generation
  • Comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Good knowledge and understanding SCADA/monitoring systems, maintenance requirements, interconnection agreement requirements, land use requirements, data management, and other aspects of daily wind operation
  • Understanding of budget management and reporting
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the application of Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Excel and Word;
  • Willingness and ability to travel - up to 50% between sites in Texas Region (Garden City and Floydada)

Qualifications
  • 5 years+ as Site Operations or BOP Manager and/or complementary combination of education and experience in an operational/service environment, that includes electrical systems and power generation plants.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related scientific/technical discipline preferred
  • Familiarity with commercial, industrial and utility-scale electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and be willing and able to travel and work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, holidays and nights;
  • GWO certification is a plus
